Common SEO Myths

There are many common SEO myths about how to get high search engine rankings. These are just a few:

Submitting your site to search engines on a regular basis will get you a high ranking.
False. Repeatedly submitting your web site to the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN will not benefit towards getting top rankings. You actually never have to submit your site to the major search engines at all to get top rankings. There are certain directories and specific places on the Web to submit your site, but you should not spend money submitting your site on a regular basis to thousands of search engines.
Stuffing keywords in your meta tags will help you get a high ranking.
False. Most major search engines give little weight to meta tag keywords anymore, depending on the search engine. Meta keywords should be included in your web pages, but they should not be overdone. The meta keywords should be relevant to the content on your page and relevant to the page title.
You should put hidden text on your web site.
False. Some people put hidden text on their web site that is the same color as the background, that is too small to read, and/or that is hidden to the visible eye in other ways. The purpose of this is to try to fool the search engines. While this may work to some extent, it is forbidden by the search engines and can easily get your site penalized. Using these kinds of forbidden black hat techniques can even get your site banned by the search engines. We use only legitimate search engine optimization techniques.
